ECOWAS and WACSI Sign Five-Year Pact to Strengthen West African Civil Society

ECOWAS and the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) have signed a five‑year agreement aimed at deepening civil‑society engagement across the West African region. The pact will facilitate connections between organised and organic civil‑society actors and support joint advocacy on issues such as civil‑society regulation, the Sustainable Development Goals, civic space, gender equality and aid effectiveness.

Ghana’s former President John Dramani Mahama highlighted civil society as a strategic partner in nation‑building during the launch. The agreement builds on the work of WACSI policy‑influencing lead Omolara T. Balogun, who will guide the partnership’s implementation.
