ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development advances reforms and regional financing

The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) is advancing institutional reforms and regional financing initiatives. During an extraordinary general assembly held on July 30, 2026, member states adopted new orientations to strengthen governance, improve financial discipline among shareholder states, and increase resource mobilization capacity.

Key governance discussions addressed the vacancy of the Vice-President position for Finance and Institutional Services, which has been unoccupied since July 2024. Reforms aim to link a state's ability to hold high-level institutional roles to its fulfillment of financial obligations to the bank.

In a separate development on September 2, 2026, EBID signed a CFAF 10-billion financing agreement with the Banque de l'Habitat de Côte d'Ivoire (BHCI). This facility is designed to support housing finance and increase funding access for SMEs and SMIs within Côte d'Ivoire's real estate value chain, including construction and public works, to address the nation's housing deficit and stimulate economic growth.
