ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development upgraded to B1 by Moody’s
Moody’s has upgraded the long-term issuer rating of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) from B2 to B1, assigning a stable outlook. The upgrade reflects the Lomé-based institution's improved financial profile, characterized by strong solvency, adequate capitalization, and resilient asset quality despite expanding financing activities.
The rating improvement supports EBID’s strategic goal of achieving investment-grade status and its 2026–2030 Growth, Resilience and Optimisation (GRO) Strategy. This strategy focuses on infrastructure, clean energy, and private sector development. By strengthening its credit profile, the bank aims to improve access to international capital markets and secure more competitive financing conditions to fund regional projects.
EBID has recently approved over US$510 million in new projects, including significant deals in Guinea, Ghana, and Sierra Leone. The upgrade is expected to help compress borrowing costs for regional development projects that rely on the bank’s intermediation.
