ECR Party holds defense summit in Vilnius to discuss European security
The ECR Party organized the ‘European Awareness Days – Peace Through Strength: Defending Europe’ in Vilnius, Lithuania, on October 23 and 24. The summit brought together international delegations to discuss strengthening European defense capabilities, national military capacity, and the European pillar of NATO.
Key discussions focused on the necessity of strength to maintain peace and the importance of protecting European sovereignty, borders, and energy independence. Participants emphasized the need for a robust defense industry and predictable procurement processes to expand production.
Antonio Giordano, Secretary General of the ECR Party, proposed a shift in focus toward ‘civil resilience,’ suggesting that security training should include preparing citizens for emergencies such as blackouts, floods, or earthquakes. Other contributors addressed the need for strategic freedom, competitive military procurement, and enhanced economic and energy cooperation with the United States.
