Ecuador advances financial inclusion and technological risk management
Ecuador has seen significant progress in financial inclusion, with the Central Bank of Ecuador reporting that 91.6% of adults, or 11.6 million people, had access to at least one financial product by the end of 2025. Approximately 81.2% of the adult population maintains frequently used accounts.
Despite this access, experts emphasize that financial health depends on literacy and effective money management rather than just account ownership. Key skills such as budgeting, consistent saving, and responsible credit use are essential for personal and family stability.
Simultaneously, the Ecuadorian financial sector is strengthening its management of technological risks. The Superintendency of Banks has noted advancements in formalizing systems for cybersecurity, information security, and business continuity. As digital services expand, authorities are focusing on preventing cyberattacks, fraud, and data leaks, shifting toward a risk-based supervision model that prioritizes the actual effectiveness of controls over mere documentary compliance.
