Ecuador advances trade ties with South Korea through SECA and Expo Korea

Ecuador is actively promoting the ratification of the Strategic Economic Cooperation Agreement (SECA) with South Korea. While Ecuador has completed its internal legal processes—including approval by the National Assembly and ratification by President Daniel Noboa—the agreement currently awaits final approval from the South Korean National Assembly.

Ecuadorian Ambassador to South Korea, Patricio Troya, recently met with Song Seok-jun, Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the South Korean National Assembly, to discuss bilateral relations and request support for the SECA ratification. The agreement, signed in September 2025, covers 23 chapters including goods, services, public procurement, intellectual property, and cooperation in sectors such as agro-industry, manufacturing, and fisheries.

Complementing these diplomatic efforts, the 2026 Expo Korea will take place in Quito from September 4 to 6. Organized by the South Korean Embassy, KOTRA, and the Association of Korean Residents in Ecuador, the event serves as a major showcase for South Korean culture and commerce. The expo will feature K-Beauty, K-Food, K-Tech, and K-Pop, while providing a platform for South Korean companies to enter the Ecuadorian market and for local businesses to establish commercial alliances.
