Ecuador Amazon Conservation Fund Secures Up to $27 Million for New Projects

The Amazon Corridor Fund (Fondo del Biocorredor Amazónico) announced that it will have up to US$27 million available to finance conservation and restoration projects in Ecuador’s Amazon basin. After a first call that attracted 301 proposals from organisations, communities and other entities, the fund is now evaluating concept notes to select initiatives that will help maintain 4.6 million hectares already under protection, add another 1.8 million hectares, or restore degraded ecosystems. The fund receives US$23.5 million annually, with US$4.5 million set aside as a reserve, and the remaining resources allocated to program activities and grants.

In parallel, the National Corporation of Popular and Solidarity Finance (CONAFIPS) hosted a Bioeconomy and Green Financing Amazon meeting, highlighting a US$21 million line of financing from the Inter‑American Development Bank (BID) for sustainable production, plus a US$16 million BID Bioeconomy line. Government representatives stressed the aim of turning the Amazon into a hub for conservation‑linked economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction, while Ecuador chairs the Amazon Ministers’ Network this year.
