Ecuador and Colombia boost community sustainable farming initiatives

In Ambato, Ecuador, the Fundación Proyecto Salesiano's urban‑agriculture program supports around 60 low‑income families with training, seedlings, organic fertilizers and technical advice. The Granja Don Bosco farm cultivates vegetables such as zucchini, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, beetroot, onion, tomato and pepper, and is preparing to add uvilla production for local markets and potential export.

In Caldono, Colombia, a collaborative event gathered institutions, social organisations and rural communities to promote soil‑conservation practices. Participants received tools—including carts, mesh, storage tanks, stakes, hoses and gardening implements—and training on sustainable farming, erosion control and climate‑change adaptation, aiming to improve productivity while protecting soil fertility.
