Ecuador and Costa Rica launch initiatives to bring arts to public spaces

The governments of Ecuador and Costa Rica are launching initiatives to increase public access to musical and artistic performances.

In Ecuador, the administration of President Daniel Noboa has introduced ‘Arte en mi ciudad’ (Art in my city). Managed by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador, and the Institute for the Promotion of Arts, Innovation and Creativity, the program aims to move artistic expressions from traditional venues to open public spaces. The initiative seeks to democratize access to high-quality culture and strengthen social cohesion through free performances in plazas and government platforms.

In Costa Rica, the Ministry of Culture and Youth, via the National Music Center, is implementing the ‘Aventuras sobre las olas’ (Adventures on the waves) program. This educational tour features the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica performing for students in classrooms. The program is designed to introduce symphonic music to younger generations through themed musical experiences inspired by maritime elements, such as storms and sea creatures.
