Ecuador's Biess opens property auction, homes from $27,394
The Banco del Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (Biess) has launched a nationwide auction of properties recovered through co‑active processes. The sale includes houses, apartments, land and commercial spaces located mainly in the provinces of Pichincha, Guayas and Manabí. Base prices start at $27,394 for an apartment in Quito and $43,646 for a house in Guayaquil, with some assets valued well above $100,000.
The auction runs throughout July and August 2026, with individual closing dates extending to 28 August. Interested buyers must register on Biess’s online portal, qualify as a “rematista,” upload required identification and tax documents, and submit an offer together with a mandatory deposit. The catalogue lists 23 houses and nine additional properties such as lots and commercial units.
President Daniel Noboa said the recovery of assets linked to organized crime is the responsibility of the Fiscalía, not the central government, but noted that reforms are being pursued to speed up the extinción de dominio process. Biess says the auction will generate capital to strengthen the bank’s liquidity and improve management of its asset portfolio.
