Ecuador and Guatemala report growth in fruit exports

Ecuadorian banana exports grew by 9.64% during the first eight months of 2026, reaching 282.27 million boxes compared to the same period in 2025. According to Acorbanec, the European Union remains the primary destination, accounting for 32.45% of total exports, with significant growth in markets such as Finland, France, and Estonia. Russia followed as the second largest market with 19.83% share, while exports to the United States saw a slight decrease of 1.33%.

In Guatemala, mango exports have seen significant growth, supported by the adoption of better production practices and training initiatives led by Agexport. In 2025, the country exported over 3.66 million boxes of mangoes to the United States, a 4% increase in volume from the previous year. The Tommy Atkins variety accounted for 88% of the export volume.

Climate concerns persist in Ecuador, where the El Niño phenomenon has placed major producing provinces like Guayas, Los Ríos, and El Oro on alert. While heavy rains have caused some flooding in El Oro, officials report that exportable production has not yet been affected.
