Ecuador and Peru set August 2026 public holiday calendars

Ecuador will observe a four‑day holiday in nine cantons from Friday 7 August to Monday 10 August 2026, linking local canton celebrations with the national holiday commemorating the First Cry of Independence on 10 August. The cantons gaining the extra day are Portovelo (El Oro), Buena Fe (Los Ríos), Carlos Julio Arosemena Tola (Napo), Loreto (Orellana), Nabón (Azuay), Nobol (Guayas), Shushufindi (Sucumbíos), Cuyabeno (Sucumbíos) and Sigchos (Cotopaxi). The extension follows existing labor laws that allow the transfer of holidays when they fall on certain weekdays.

In Peru, the official August 2026 holiday schedule includes Thursday 6 August (Battle of Junín) and Sunday 30 August (Santa Rosa de Lima), following the national holidays on 28‑29 July. These days are expected to stimulate travel, tourism, commerce and transport activity as workers and students plan trips and family gatherings.

Both countries’ holiday calendars are intended to help employers and employees plan operations and leisure activities well in advance of the dates.
