Ecuador and Venezuela electric utilities schedule maintenance causing temporary service disruptions
The National Electricity Corporation (CNEL EP) in Ecuador will carry out emergency maintenance on its distribution network in Portoviejo, Manabí, on Saturday 11 July 2026. Power will be suspended from 06:00 to 09:00 in several neighborhoods, including Picoazá, Paso Lateral, Final de Reales, Tamarindos, Negrita, Manahospital, the Registro Civil sector, Avenida 5 de Junio, Redondel de Los Santos, Las Cruces and surrounding areas. CNEL advises residents to disconnect sensitive equipment and plan activities around the outage.
In Venezuela, the state utility Corpoelec will perform a preventive water release from the hydroelectric plants of the Bajo Caroní on Monday 13 July 2026, starting at 11:00. The operation, part of the 2026 Preventive Relief Plan, will open dam gates, increasing flow in the Orinoco and Caroní rivers. Authorities have warned fishermen, river users and nearby residents to take precautionary measures as currents will rise sharply.
Both actions aim to preserve grid stability and avoid larger disruptions, with utilities urging the public to follow safety recommendations during the short‑term interruptions.
