Ecuador appoints Luis Alberto Jaramillo Granja as new ambassador to China

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has officially appointed Luis Alberto Jaramillo Granja as the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the People's Republic of China. The appointment was formalized through Executive Decree 473, effective immediately upon its signing.

Jaramillo Granja, an industrial engineer with experience in trade and business management, previously held significant roles in the Ecuadorian government, including Director General of the National Customs Service (Senae) and interim Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment, and Fisheries. The appointment follows formal approval from the Chinese government via Verbal Note N. V. (2026) 171, issued on August 13, 2026.

This transition replaces María Soledad Córdova Montero, who had served in the role since January 2024. The new mission aims to strengthen bilateral relations and represent Ecuadorian interests in Asia.
