Ecuador banana exports rise 8.3% through July 2026

Ecuador exported 247.09 million boxes of bananas between January and July 2026, marking an 8.32% increase compared to the same period in 2025. According to the Banana Exporters Association of Ecuador (AEBE), this growth represents approximately 19 million additional boxes.

The surge is attributed to increased supply driven by higher temperatures, which accelerated bunch development. July specifically saw 33.67 million boxes exported, a 19.10% increase over July 2025. The European Union remains the primary market, receiving 81.01 million boxes, which accounts for 32.78% of total exports.

Other significant markets include Russia, which received 49.06 million boxes (up 11.96%), and the Middle East, with 38.04 million boxes (up 16.93%). While cumulative growth is strong, AEBE noted erratic demand in July due to summer holidays and the low season, particularly in Europe. The industry also faces logistical pressures and uncertainty regarding freight rates and supply chain costs due to geopolitical tensions.
