Ecuador banana exports rise 9.6% through September 2026
Ecuadorian banana exports reached 312.41 million boxes between January and September 2026, representing a 9.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to data from the Association of Banana Commercialization and Export of Ecuador (Acorbanec).
The European Union remains the primary destination for these exports, accounting for 32.38% of shipments. Other major markets include Russia at 19.83%, the Middle East at 15.5%, and the United States at 11.53%. Significant growth was noted in specific European markets, with exports to Finland, Denmark, and France increasing by 194.96%, 159.37%, and 136.46% respectively.
Despite the increase in volume, the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE) has raised concerns regarding market value. AEBE Executive President José Antonio Hidalgo stated that while export volumes have grown, the value of bananas in supermarkets has fallen by 20% over the last 15 years, even as the prices of other fruits have risen. The association is working to ensure that production costs, environmental protections, and fair wages are reflected in international market prices.
