Ecuador battles seven active forest fires across five provinces
Ecuador is currently managing seven active forest fires across five provinces: Cotopaxi, Pichincha, Azuay, Carchi, and Imbabura. The National Risk Management Secretariat reported that a fire in Cotopaxi has been brought under control.
In the Azuay province, emergency crews are facing significant challenges in the Tahual area of the Paute canton. The fire is located in a mountainous region with difficult access, complicating efforts to extinguish the flames. Firefighters from Cuenca and Paute are working to contain the blaze.
Additional emergencies have been reported in Azuay at Pachamama-Llacao and near the German School. While some fires in the Cuenca canton, such as those in Julia Bernal and Molinopamba, have been extinguished, the ongoing dry season keeps response teams on high alert.
