Ecuador broadcasts documentary on Fernando Villavicencio assassination on national TV
A four‑part documentary about the 2023 murder of former presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio was aired on Ecuador’s national television on the night of 2 August. The series, produced by Villavicencio’s daughters Amanda and Tamia Villavicencio Sandoval, was broadcast as a public‑interest program at the request of President Daniel Noboa’s government.
The first episode, titled “Who ordered the assassination of Fernando Villavicencio?”, presents the family’s hypothesis on the planning of the killing and references material already convicted by Ecuadorian courts, while the alleged intellectual authorship remains under investigation. The family says the series aims to contribute to truth, memory, access to justice and the defence of democracy, and has asked the public defender’s office to represent them due to limited resources.
