In 2026, the highest number of requests occurred in the Pichincha province with 4,996 procedures, followed by Guayas with 4,866 and Manabí with 2,431.

The registry distinguishes between a name change, which is a voluntary right for adults to modify or reorder their names, and a rectification, which is used to correct typographical or spelling errors. The cost for a name change is $12.00, while a rectification costs $4.00. These services are free for individuals with a disability of 30% or higher. The process requires presenting an identity card, proof of payment, and a completed form at any national Civil Registry agency.
