Ecuador celebrates National Flag Day with student oath ceremonies

Ecuador is observing National Flag Day on September 26, marked by traditional flag oath ceremonies across the country. More than 261,000 high school seniors from 4,101 educational institutions are participating in the rites to honor the national symbol.

These ceremonies involve the proclamation of flag bearers, standard-bearers, and escorts chosen for academic excellence. In various regions, including Loja and Guayaquil, students participate in solemn acts that reinforce civic values, national identity, and responsibility. Some military colleges also conducted specialized ceremonies following military protocol.

The current tricolor flag, consisting of yellow, blue, and red, was adopted in 1860 under the government of Gabriel García Moreno. The date of the celebration was officially established by Congress in 1955 to commemorate the historical significance of the national emblem.
