Ecuador ends tariffs on Colombian imports, restoring trade

From 1 June, Ecuador eliminated the tariffs it had imposed on Colombian products, which had risen to as high as 100 percent during a dispute that began in early 2026. The measure follows Andean Community rulings and is intended to revive bilateral commerce, especially for industrial goods.

Colombian trade groups estimate the tariff removal could enable roughly US$170 million in annual exports to Ecuador, including about US$150 million of plastics such as polypropylene, PVC, packaging films and construction materials, and around US$20 million of paints. The change is expected to lower costs for importers and consumers, benefit border provinces that depend on cross‑border trade, and reinforce supply‑chain stability under the regional trade framework.
