Ecuador faces forest fires in Chimborazo and earthquake drills in Guayaquil

In Chimborazo, ongoing forest fires continue to pose a threat as residents call for rain to combat the dry conditions. The National Secretariat for Risk Management reported that 58 forest fires occurred in the province during September, affecting over 125 hectares. In the Riobamba area, specifically the Guazazo-Santa Ana sector, 30 firefighters from Riobamba and Penipe worked to control a fire that has impacted approximately 19 hectares of scrubland.

Meanwhile, in Guayaquil, authorities conducted the 16th Cantonal Earthquake Drill to evaluate emergency preparedness. The exercise included a municipal building evacuation that was completed in under five minutes. The Guayaquil Fire Department also participated in a rescue simulation, where personnel used specialized tools to reach and rescue two simulated victims from a building, testing the coordination between Guayaquil and Samborondón emergency units.
