Ecuador fans flood Philadelphia stadium with yellow for World Cup debut

Ecuador made its 2026 FIFA World Cup debut at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, and the venue was transformed into a sea of yellow as thousands of Ecuadorian supporters filled the 68,000‑seat arena. Fans arrived in large numbers, wearing national jerseys, waving flags and turning the stands into an improvised home ground for the Tri, while gatherings and celebrations spread to city landmarks such as the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Influencer Stefany Aquino, an Ecuadorian resident of New York, attracted additional attention by appearing outside the stadium with body paint that displayed the Ecuadorian flag, the United States flag and the World Cup emblem. She said the outfit was a dream realized since Ecuador qualified for the tournament, and she became a focal point for photographs and media coverage.

Ahead of the match against Côte d'Ivoire, the crowd placed confidence in veteran striker Enner Valencia and winger Gonzalo Plata to lead the attack, hoping to break a recent scoring drought and secure a positive start for the national team.
