Ecuador Football Federation calls for FIFA probe after Mexico defeat

After Ecuador's elimination by Mexico in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) lodged a formal complaint with FIFA, requesting a detailed investigation into security‑related incidents that occurred before and during the match. The federation said Mexican supporters used fireworks, chants and allegedly assaulted Ecuadorian fans and journalists at the Estadio Azteca, raising concerns about player and spectator safety. In the same statement, the FEF announced it will present a financial report to clubs, and that the search for a new national team coach has already begun.
