Ecuador government implements health and sports initiatives
In Cotopaxi, Ecuador, the government has launched demonstrative workshops to prevent chronic childhood malnutrition as part of the National Strategy Ecuador Grows Without Childhood Malnutrition. Through the Project Ecuador Free of Childhood Malnutrition (PELDI), authorities are implementing activities to care for mothers and infants. These efforts have contributed to a decrease in the province's childhood malnutrition rate from 21.59% to 19.79%. The workshops utilize a methodology called ‘Aprendo haciendo’ (I learn by doing) and will be replicated across all seven cantons in the province.
In the Guayaquil, Durán, and Samborondón regions, the Ministry of Education, Sport, and Culture delivered 901 sports kits to 23 educational institutions. This initiative benefits 22,864 students, aiming to promote physical activity, recreation, and integral development among youth.
