Ecuador hosts SOLIDAREX 2026 multinational disaster response exercise

The Ecuadorian Navy is leading the fifth edition of SOLIDAREX 2026, a multinational training exercise held from October 21 to 23 in Manta, Manabí. The drill is designed to strengthen regional responses to large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods.

Participating nations include Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Peru, and the Dominican Republic. The practical phase of the exercise involves simulated amphibious landings and humanitarian aid operations at El Murciélago beach. The scenario simulates a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that severely damages local infrastructure, including ports, roads, and airports.

Training activities encompass maritime and land search and rescue, medical evacuations, and the transport of humanitarian aid. The Ecuadorian Navy is deploying six vessels, including the BAE Los Ríos and BAE Jambelí, alongside participating units from Peru and Colombia. Additionally, the Jaramijó Naval Base is conducting civic actions to provide medical assistance to vulnerable local communities.
