Ecuador issues weather and red alert warnings for rain and rough seas

Ecuador is facing severe weather warnings involving heavy rainfall and dangerous sea conditions. The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi) has issued a short-term alert for intense rain and storms affecting the northwestern provinces, specifically Esmeraldas, Manabí, and Santo Domingo. Precipitation levels are expected to reach between 19 mm and 41 mm per day in high-risk areas, with potential for flooding, landslides, and fog affecting road conditions.

Simultaneously, the National Secretariat for Risk Management has issued alerts for 41 beaches across El Oro, Esmeraldas, Galápagos, Guayas, Manabí, and Santa Elena due to rough seas. Ten specific beaches, including Canoa, Jaramijó, and Salinas, are under a red alert for high threats of strong waves and rip currents. These warnings coincide with ongoing monitoring of the El Niño phenomenon, which previously prompted authorities to raise the national emergency alert level.
