Ecuador launches $1.4 million initiative for female students

The Ecuadorian government has launched the ‘Mujeres que Transforman 2026’ initiative, a financial aid program designed to support women pursuing higher education. With a total investment of $1.4 million, the program aims to benefit 3,000 students enrolled in technical and technological careers at public higher education institutions.

Each beneficiary will receive a one-time stipend of $482, an amount equivalent to the unified basic salary. These funds are intended to cover essential living expenses such as food, housing, basic services, and transportation to help students remain in their academic programs.

Eligible applicants must be enrolled in third-level technical or technological programs at public institutions and must not already hold a degree at the same level or receive other state scholarships. Priority will be given to vulnerable groups, including survivors of gender-based violence, persons with permanent disabilities, low-income students, and women belonging to indigenous peoples or nationalities. Applications can be submitted online through the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Culture website from August 12 to August 21.
