Ecuador launches Aula Digital to benefit 2.8 million students
The Ecuadorian government, led by President Daniel Noboa, has officially launched “Aula Digital,” a national initiative aimed at transforming public education through technology and artificial intelligence. The project is projected to cost USD 50.65 million through 2029, with an initial investment of USD 8.5 million planned for 2026.
Developed by the Ministry of Education, Sport, and Culture (MINEDEC) in partnership with Google for Education and the National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT EP), the program will benefit 2.8 million students from basic to higher education. It also aims to strengthen the digital capabilities of 165,000 public sector teachers.
The initiative integrates tools such as Google Classroom, Meet, Drive, Gemini, and Gemini Notebook within a secure institutional environment. This effort is part of the National Digital Transformation Plan for Education and is complemented by a USD 39.58 million project funded by the CAF to reduce the digital divide in rural areas.
