Honduras and Ecuador launch major digital education initiatives

Honduras has announced a program to train 60,000 teachers in artificial intelligence using Google Gemini. Developed by the Ministry of Education and the Digital Government Directorate (DIGER), the initiative aims to modernize classroom planning and material creation. This effort coincides with work by the National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL) to improve connectivity and a proposed Cybersecurity Law to be sent to Congress.

In Ecuador, the government has introduced ‘Aula Digital’, a virtual platform designed to benefit 2.8 million students and 165,000 teachers. Part of a National Digital Transformation Plan for Education, the project involves an investment of over $50 million through 2029. The platform will integrate Google tools such as Classroom, Drive, Meet, and Gemini.

To support this digital shift, Ecuador is also investing in rural connectivity, including the delivery of thousands of computers and satellite internet expansion. Additionally, President Daniel Noboa recently inspected progress on the new Public University of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, a project aimed at expanding higher education infrastructure in the province.
