Ecuador launches climate finance program with World Bank support

The Ecuadorian government, through the Ministry of Environment and Energy, has formally begun implementing the Transformative Carbon Asset Facility (TCAF) program with support from the World Bank Group. The initiative aims to support public policy transformations that generate verifiable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and mobilize financial resources for climate change mitigation.

In Ecuador, the program focuses on mitigation efforts within the transportation sector and processes designed to promote an energy transition toward sustainable and clean sources. Between August 17 and 19, national technical teams and World Bank representatives worked to validate the project design, review implementation instruments, consolidate capacity-building plans, and define mechanisms for environmental and social safeguards.

The implementation involves inter-institutional coordination between the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Ministry of Economic Development and Productive sectors, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility to integrate environmental, economic, legal, and technical dimensions.
