Ecuadorian police seize large cocaine shipments in nationwide operations

Ecuadorian authorities have conducted several major anti-drug operations across the country, resulting in significant seizures and arrests. In Esmeraldas, police confiscated 1.5 tons of cocaine, consisting of 1,600 blocks intended for transport to Central and North America.

In the Carchi province near the Colombian border, law enforcement intercepted a truck containing 469.6 kilograms of cocaine. The shipment was notable for its packaging; 370 blocks were wrapped in stickers featuring the face and name of Norwegian footballer Erling Haaland, along with images of a soccer ball and the World Cup trophy. Authorities explained this is a form of “criminal branding” used by organized crime to identify the quality or origin of shipments. A Colombian national was detained and placed under preventive prison.

In Quito, the “Apolo 36” operation led to the arrest of seven individuals and the seizure of 15 kilograms of drugs. Additionally, Interior Minister John Reimberg reported the deportation of a Colombian national from Carchi who was wanted for kidnapping, homicide, and arms trafficking.
