Ecuador restores consular services in Venezuela following deadly June earthquakes

Ecuador's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility reactivated consular assistance for Ecuadorian citizens residing in Venezuela after the June 24 earthquakes that killed roughly 3,685 people and injured over 16,700. Officials arrived in Caracas on July 3 to begin limited aid for vulnerable individuals, and from July 10 the temporary office in the Section of Interests at the Swiss Embassy will offer full passport and identity‑card issuance, renewal, and civil‑registry services such as births, deaths, marriages and unions of fact. The office operates 09:00‑17:00 with 24‑hour emergency support for humanitarian cases, including assisted returns, missing‑person searches and repatriation of remains.

The consular activation follows Ecuador's humanitarian response that included more than 30 tons of aid supplies and the deployment of 108 firefighters from Quito and Guayaquil to assist rescue operations. Although diplomatic relations between Ecuador and Venezuela have been formally suspended since 2024, the temporary consular presence provides essential services for the Ecuadorian community in Venezuela during the ongoing recovery effort.
