Ecuador receives 300,000 HPV vaccine doses donation

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health (MSP) has received a donation of 300,000 nonavalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine doses from the Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil (JBG). The donation, valued at approximately $100 million, will be delivered in three separate shipments.

Vaccination is scheduled to take place between November 6, 2026, and January 30, 2027, across five provinces: Guayas, Manabí, Esmeraldas, Galápagos, and Morona Santiago (specifically the Taisha canton). The initiative aims to protect an estimated 247,374 people in socially and epidemiologically vulnerable areas.

The administration protocol involves a single dose for individuals aged 10 to 14, while those between 15 and 45 will receive three doses. Unlike the standard annual vaccination for 9-year-olds which protects against four virus types, these donated nonavalent vaccines protect against nine types, including 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58.
