Ecuador lifts curfew in four provinces while state of exception continues
The curfew in the Ecuadorian provinces of Guayas, Manabí, Los Ríos, and El Oro ended at 05:00 on September 30, 2026. However, the state of exception remains in effect across eight provinces and three municipalities, including Pichincha and Esmeraldas. This legal framework continues to allow for the suspension of rights regarding the inviolability of domicile and correspondence.
Between September 17 and September 29, security operations conducted by the National Police and Armed Forces resulted in the apprehension of 2,561 people. Of these, 695 were detained for violating curfew restrictions, while 1,866 were arrested for various crimes such as extortion, organized crime, and drug trafficking.
During this period, authorities conducted 1,310 operations, established 1,050 control points, and carried out 29 raids. Seizures included 8.1 tons of drugs, 456 weapons, and 12,819 rounds of ammunition. The government is currently evaluating the results of these security measures to determine if further mobility restrictions will be necessary.
