Ecuador sets new 2026 public holidays, including August 10 national break

The Ecuadorian government released an official calendar of public holidays through 2030, adding a new national holiday on Monday 10 August 2026 to mark the First Cry of Independence. Because the date falls on a Monday, workers will enjoy a three‑day weekend from Saturday 8 August through Monday 10 August, a measure intended to stimulate internal tourism and economic activity.

Separately, the city of Guayaquil will observe a local holiday on Friday 24 July 2026, moving the traditional celebration of the city's foundation (normally 25 July) to the preceding weekday because the original date lands on a Saturday. This creates a three‑day bridge for Guayaquil residents from Thursday 22 July to Sunday 26 July, while the rest of the country continues normal operations.

Both announcements cite the national holiday law, which provides extra pay or compensatory rest for workers required to work on designated holidays.
