Ecuador streamlines vehicle tax reductions for priority groups
The Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI) has streamlined the process for senior citizens and people with disabilities in Ecuador to access reductions on the Motor Vehicle Property Tax.
For individuals purchasing a new vehicle through a commercial dealership, the tax reduction is applied automatically, provided the owner does not have another vehicle registered in their name. Under current regulations, the benefit is limited to a single vehicle per taxpayer.
Owners who possess two or more vehicles can manually select which vehicle will receive the tax reduction by logging into the SRI online portal. If a reduction is already active on another vehicle during the same fiscal period, the system will prompt the user for authorization to transfer the benefit to the newly selected vehicle. Once registered, the benefit renews automatically at the start of each new fiscal year, provided the eligibility criteria continue to be met.
