Ecuador undergoes OAS evaluation of anti-corruption measures
Ecuador is currently undergoing an international evaluation by the Organization of American States (OAS) to assess its progress in preventing and combating corruption. The process is being conducted through the Mechanism for Follow-up to the Implementation of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC).
Following a virtual visit in March 2026, the MESICIC Technical Secretariat has drafted a preliminary report. This document is currently undergoing technical review by a subgroup that includes representatives from El Salvador and Haiti. The goal of this stage is to resolve differences in content and reach a consensus before the report is finalized.
The evaluation covers several critical areas, including transnational bribery, illicit enrichment, tax benefits, accounting records, and extradition. It also examines the application of banking secrecy and its implications for international cooperation. The process is set to continue during the 46th Plenary Meeting of the MESICIC Committee of Experts, scheduled for September 8–11, 2026.
