Ecuadorian authorities seize large drug shipments in Quevedo and Esmeraldas

Ecuadorian security forces have conducted several major drug seizures across different provinces. In Quevedo, the National Police dismantled a drug storage center linked to an organized crime group. During a raid in the Galo Plaza sector, authorities discovered narcotics being kept in freezers to maintain the cold chain. The seizure included approximately 28.8 kilograms of marijuana and 138 grams of cocaine, intended for local micro-trafficking networks.

In the coastal province of Esmeraldas, near the Colombian border, the Security Block—comprising police and military forces—seized 188.1 kilograms of marijuana. The operation, conducted in the Aire Libre sector, resulted in the recovery of substances valued at approximately 146,000 dollars, equivalent to over 376,000 doses. This follows a recent incident in Carchi province where 300 kilograms of marijuana were intercepted and three Colombian citizens were detained.

Ecuador has become a significant transit point for narcotics destined for Europe and North America due to its proximity to major producers and its coastal ports. The country has seen record-breaking seizure volumes, reaching nearly 300 tons in 2024.
