Portoviejo is celebrating 206 years of political independence, commemorating its 1820 adherence to the liberation movement against Spanish rule. The anniversary honors historical figures such as Manuel Rivadeneira and Andrés de Vera. Commemorative activities include student parades, a civic-military parade, and a solemn session. A local holiday has been scheduled for Monday, October 19.
In Cuenca, the municipality is preparing a four-day celebration to mark its 206th anniversary of independence. The festivities, which coincide with the Day of the Dead holiday from October 31 to November 3, will feature the traditional Huaynacapazo, public parades, and free concerts by national and international artists. The municipal agenda has an estimated budget of $200,000, supported by public and private collaborations. Security operations are being coordinated with central government authorities to manage the influx of residents and visitors.
