Defender Joel Ordóñez suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during the Ecuador‑Mexico match linked to the 2026 World Cup. The injury forced him to miss Club Brugge’s Belgian Super Cup against Royal Union Saint‑Gilloise, which ended 1‑1 before Union won on penalties.

The setback has paused interest from several European clubs, including Juventus, Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, who were monitoring a possible transfer. Club Brugge said further medical examinations are required before any deal can proceed. Ordóñez’s market value is estimated at €33 million, with the club seeking offers above €40 million.
