Ecuadorian educators reactivate FLIM to protest labor instability
In Ecuador, the Frente de Lucha de Ingreso al Magisterio (FLIM) has been reactivated by the Unión Nacional de Educadores to protest labor instability within the public education system. The group reports that over 30,000 teachers are currently facing precarious conditions due to temporary contracts and provisional appointments.
Additionally, the union highlights that approximately 800,000 professionals in teaching and psychology face difficulties accessing stable employment. The FLIM is demanding transparent public merit-based competitions, reforms to the LOEI and LOSEP laws to allow permanent appointments for those with over three years of service, and the recognition of pre-professional practices as formal teaching experience.
