Ecuadorian exporter faces prison for large-scale drug trafficking
Elvis Wilfrido S. S., the legal representative of an export company, has been placed in preventive detention following the discovery of a large-scale drug shipment at the DP World Posorja maritime port in Guayas, Ecuador.
During an inspection on September 30, 2026, anti-narcotics intelligence agents and police canine units discovered 39.55 kilograms of cocaine concealed within the cooling system of an export container. The drugs were found in 37 brick-shaped packages wrapped in adhesive tape. The shipment was destined for Germany.
The Ecuadorian Prosecutor's Office filed charges under Article 220 of the Organic Integral Penal Code (COIP) for large-scale illicit trafficking of controlled substances. Evidence presented during the flagrancy hearing included agent testimonies, preliminary identification tests, weighing records, and security camera footage. A judge has ordered a 30-day fiscal instruction period.
