Ecuadorian flower industry prepares for 2027 season after Expo Flor 2026
The Expo Flor Ecuador 2026 trade fair recently concluded in Quito, bringing together 130 exhibitors and participants from 73 countries. The event served as a platform for Ecuadorian producers to strengthen international commercial ties and showcase innovation in the floral sector.
Ecuador currently ranks as the third-largest global flower exporter, following the Netherlands and Colombia. In 2025, the sector recorded USD 1.045 billion in exports, supporting approximately 140,000 direct and indirect jobs. Roses account for 76% of these exports, primarily targeting markets in the United States, the European Union, and Eurasia.
Looking ahead to the 2027 Valentine's Day campaign, producers have already begun technical preparations, including the 'pinche de flor' technique to regulate crop development. The industry anticipates a favorable season, bolstered by the elimination of certain surcharges in the United States and potential tariff reductions through agreements with Canada. In the 2026 season, Ecuador exported approximately 39,000 tons of flowers, a 5.41% increase from the previous year.
