Ecuadorian footballers reach record 113 players in global leagues

Ecuadorian football is experiencing a historic surge in international presence, with 113 players currently competing in top-tier global leagues. This figure marks a significant increase from 102 players last season and more than double the 54 legionnaires recorded in 2020. According to Transfermarkt, the total number of Ecuadorian players in professional and developmental categories reaches 240.

Individual performances are gaining traction across major leagues. In England, Nilson Angulo scored a free-kick goal on his Premier League debut for Sunderland, while Jeremy Sarmiento scored his first goal for Middlesbrough. In Brazil, Keny Arroyo scored for Cruzeiro against Flamengo, and Gonzalo Plata recently secured a Copa Libertadores title with Flamengo.
