Ecuadorian forces detain four alleged FARC dissident members

Ecuadorian military and police forces have detained four alleged members of the Oliver Sinisterra Front, a dissident group of the former FARC guerrilla movement. The operations took place in the Imbabura province, specifically in the locality of Lita.

Following an armed confrontation, soldiers apprehended an Ecuadorian national and a Colombian national at a wooden residence. During this initial intervention, authorities seized a rifle, a pistol, more than 200 rounds of ammunition, and a tactical vest.

In a subsequent operation, security forces detained two more individuals accused of providing logistical support to the group. Interior Minister John Reimberg reported that these individuals were also linked to the control of illegal mining activities in two sectors of Imbabura. Seized items from the broader operation included additional rifles, over 300 rounds of ammunition, pistols, a package of cocaine, and mining tools.

The Oliver Sinisterra Front is among the foreign groups targeted by President Daniel Noboa’s administration as part of a declared internal armed conflict against organized crime.
