Ecuadorian intelligence chief Sensi-Contugi to be buried following Kenya crash
The funeral for Michele Sensi-Contugi, former director of Ecuador’s National Intelligence Center (CNI), and his wife, Stephany María Hollihan Vásconez, is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The couple died on August 19, 2026, in a helicopter accident in the Samburu County of northern Kenya. The crash, which occurred near Ololokwe Mountain, resulted in seven fatalities, including US citizens and the pilot.
While President Daniel Noboa has decreed a state funeral for Sensi-Contugi, the family has requested that the arrival and wake of the remains be kept strictly private. The remains were repatriated from Kenya and arrived in Guayaquil on Wednesday. The burial will take place at the Parque de la Paz cemetery in Samborondón.
