Ecuadorian legislators campaign on public health system deficiencies
Legislators from the Revolución Ciudadana movement have launched a media campaign targeting the deficiencies of Ecuador's public health system ahead of the 2026 sectional elections. Members of the group have conducted visits to various hospitals and health centers, documenting shortages of medicine and equipment.
During these visits, legislators such as Ricardo Patiño and Roque Ordóñez have used social media to highlight issues including a lack of medical supplies and malfunctioning equipment. Ordóñez reported that medicine availability had dropped from 48% to 40% and noted patient deaths linked to resource shortages.
In response, government-aligned legislator Inés Alarcón has criticized the actions as political theater, arguing that the visits lack proper formal requests for entry into medical facilities.
