Ecuadorian national arrested by ICE at Phoenix airport

Diana Vera Espinoza, a 27-year-old Ecuadorian national, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on August 6. Vera was traveling with her husband, a U.S. citizen, for a celebratory trip when agents intercepted her, citing an existing detention order.

Vera had previously entered the United States legally on a visa and was in the process of regularizing her immigration status through her marriage to her husband. Despite attempts to present marriage documentation and proof of her ongoing legal process, officials proceeded with the arrest. Her family has since launched a campaign to fund her legal defense and seek bail.

The incident highlights intensified enforcement measures by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The agency has implemented stricter reviews at airport terminals to monitor domestic travelers, a policy shift aimed at preventing individuals without consolidated legal status from utilizing domestic flights.
