Ecuadorian National Assembly extends deadlines for oversight reports
The Ecuadorian National Assembly has granted two 30-day extensions to the Oversight Commission to finalize investigation reports regarding the Progen and Sucre-Foglocons cases. The decision was made during session 114 following a request from the parliamentary table citing a heavy workload and accumulated impeachment proceedings.
The Progen investigation focuses on tracing the movement of funds related to a failed electricity generation contract. The Sucre-Foglocons investigation involves updating a 2021 report concerning a suspected transnational money laundering network. This case examines the regional payment system (Sucre) used by ALBA member nations and commercial relations between Ecuador and Venezuela, specifically involving exports from Foglocons, a company linked to individuals currently facing legal proceedings in the United States.
The session also marked the official return of Assembly President Mishel Mancheno from maternity leave.
